Here we are again … floor mats … what a project this has been. This time we need to make the black background actually black again. Im quite positive this will aid in the “pop” of the white zig zags as well. As with before it all starts with tape. Majority of this project is just taping off sections.
It’s been about a week of cure time for the re-done zig zags so I am not worried about peeling paint up. The key goal here for me was to get nice crisp clean lines and tight points.
At this point in the project just sit yourself down with your favorite adult beverage – throw on some football or tunes and start taping. Between 2 phases of this I used an entire roll of green painters tape. Nothing fancy though.
I had decided not to mess with the edges of the floor mats. I don’t really know why but something about them being original appeals to me. I wish I had a better answer for you all but i like how the edges look. So I tapped them off and start laying down the newspaper as well.
Time to spray! Again we are using the SEM color coat system and this is their standard black. Same color I used to refresh the interior carpet on my VTEC model.
This can is pretty awesome, its very forgiving and thick. The carpet being old too REALLY likes to soak it up. I ended of applying three heavy coat of this SEM black.
After a HOT minute of letting the final coat baked next to a space heater in the garage I pulled off the taped and was super pumped!
They came out perfect, exactly how I had imagined. It took me about 20 hours for 1 floor mat but it was well worth it in my opinion. Better yet I didn’t break the bank and I saved a set of old worn out Zig Zags!
