Some people fall in love with the Del Sol at first sight. Others… marry into it. That’s the case for our April 2025 OldSol of the Month, Heidi Davenport, who admits she once saw cars as mere tools—until a Captiva Blue Del Sol from Japan came into her life (and her garage).
From Point A to B… to Del Sol Devotee
Heidi’s journey into Sol-dom started thanks to her husband Ben—known in the community as @el_solotus and arguably one of the top Del Sol whisperers east of the Mississippi. His imported, right-hand-drive Del Sol came with a trans top that made Heidi feel like she was riding in a 90s Transformer. It was also her first convertible experience, and, as she put it: “I liked having the ability to take the top off (of the car, that is!).”
At first, she was content to be a “passenger princess,” but Ben had other plans. He found an automatic Del Sol he thought would be perfect for her. She resisted. He insisted. And thank goodness he did.
Del Sols, Cookouts & Community
If you ever find yourself in Columbus, Indiana, follow the trail of colorful targas and you might just land at the Davenports’ annual Del Sol Cookout. What started as a fun gathering has blossomed into a full-blown Solabration. Every year, more enthusiasts show up, share stories, and even pitch in—whether it’s helping set up early or donating goodies for giveaways.

Heidi says the turnout and community vibe continue to blow her away. “Every time I think we’ve met everyone there is to meet in our area, we manage to find someone new.” That’s the Del Sol magic.
A Del Sol With Zig Zag Swagger
Heidi’s Del Sol may have a bit of surface rust and a few dings, but she’s a gem under the wear. It came from a college student whose parents listed it on Facebook Marketplace while she was away (tough luck for her, lucky break for Heidi and Ben). The original zig zag floor mats still live on, lovingly cleaned and protected.
The Details:
- Interior: Nearly stock with a few custom touches—like a plaid blue headliner and matching center console cover.
- Exterior: Captiva blue and proudly wearing its 31 years and nearly 200,000 miles.
- Wheels: OG stock fat 5s with center caps intact.
- Engine: A humble and reliable D15B7. Not VTEC, but it just won’t quit—and that’s saying something.
A Solful Ride
Heidi’s not just about Sols—she’s about making memories in them. For Mother’s Day, she curated a playlist of her mom’s favorite songs and took her on a joyride through the countryside, with lunch and plant shopping on the agenda. At a stoplight, a stranger rolled down their window just to say how cool it was to see a Del Sol cruising by. Because yeah, that’s what these cars do—they turn heads and warm hearts.
Plans for the Future?
Heidi’s got one major goal for her Del Sol:
“Just keep driving and enjoying it so Ben doesn’t try to sell it to someone else!” (Relatable.)
Oh, and That Tree Thing?
Yes—this Del Sol has technically pulled a tree. But just one… so far.
Got a story like Heidi’s? Whether you’re a proud owner, a passenger-turned-pilot, or someone who once hauled a pine tree with your targa top off—we want to hear about it! Submit your ride for a future OldSol of the Month feature and let the Sol shine.
