OldSol of the Month: May 2023

Initially, I bought this car with a fun, open-top project car with good parts availability in mind. However, I didn’t (and still don’t) intend to do anything crazy. Currently, the car has coilovers, Enkei RPF1s, a VMS short throw shifter with Circuit Hero shift plate, a custom catback exhaust, and an AEM cold air intake, all topped off by a respray in metallic dark red. When I first got the car, it was plagued with so many minor problems like a broken turn signal relay (which I quickly realized was a del Sol and NSX-specific part) as well as a fried ECU, among other things like constantly breaking roof handles (which makes the OldSols metal ones look very compelling). Now, I am at a place where the car is set up relatively well, and I can enjoy driving it and looking forward to some more modifications and maintenance.

Going into this project, I have stumbled across the OldSols community time and time again for technical information specific to the del Sol and have been thoroughly impressed to see a group so devoted to taking the reigns of truly dissecting each and every part of this unique piece of Honda’s history. Seeing everyone’s crazy turbocharged builds and 9000 RPM B and K series in the server is always such an inspiration. I would love to someday do a B series swap of my own, as I believe that high-revving NA power is the hallmark of Honda’s performance pedigree that carries a legacy to this day. There is no other car on the market quite like the del Sol that can combine the ability to have a fully top-down experience, legendary reliability, ample cargo space, and a downright enjoyable driving experience.
