OldSol of the Month: May 2025 – Honda Del Sol Spotlight

From Missed Civics to Babystickers Glory

All Wyatt wanted for his first car was three pedals and a good time. After a Civic coupe deal slipped through his fingers, fate (and a friend with the hookup) stepped in. The result? A bone-stock 1997 Del Sol S that hadn’t even officially hit the market yet. $3,500 later, Wyatt had his keys and a whole new chapter of his life.

Since 2021, his Sol—lovingly dubbed “Babystickers”—has been his classroom, his passion project, and his pride and joy. From the first time wrenching on drum brakes to the many… many hours diagnosing clutch hydraulics (Wyatt says, “don’t ask”), this car has taught him more than he ever expected.

But most importantly, the Sol reminded him why he loves driving. Whether it’s carving corners on backroads or testing the limits at autocross, Wyatt and Babystickers have bonded over every bump, twist, and gear grind.

The Del Sol Build – What’s Under the Hood and Beyond

  • Classic black cabin with eye-catching confetti seats
  • Hybrid Racing shift knob mounted on a second-hand K-Tuned short throw shifter
  • Rockin’ an OldSols metal bezel overlay
  • Dr. Zigzag custom floor mats (incoming!)

Exterior & Suspension:

  • Granada Black Pearl—perfectly hiding the Bondo scars
  • BC Racing BR Series coilovers
  • ASR rear subframe brace & lower control arms
  • A full set of 30-year-old bushings (hey, they’ve got character!)

Wheels & Tires:

  • Ronal R10 Turbos, 15×7 +37 offset
  • Yokohama Advan Flevas 205/50R15

Engine:

  • Currently: D16Y7 (still kicking!)
  • Future: B16A, lovingly built at Sinclair Community College in Dayton
    • Wiseco 11:1 CPR pistons, 0.5mm overbore
    • Skunk2 Alpha rods + stock crank
    • Skunk2 Tuner 2 cams with upgraded springs and retainers
    • …and a laundry list of mods Wyatt modestly says he’s “lost track of”

What’s Next?

As for the future? Wyatt says, “The sky is the limit.” Whether he’s pulling inspiration from DavImports or cooking up chaos in his own garage, one thing’s certain: no idea is too wild. A Subaru swap in a Sol? A Sol swapped into a Subaru? Who knows which will break down first (Wyatt votes both—he is the mechanic, after all).

Final Words from Wyatt
